ORIGINS & FORMATIVE YEARS
Roots, Upbringing & Early Influences
Amritpal Singh Dhillon, known professionally as AP Dhillon, was born on 10 January 1993 in Mullianwal, Gurdaspur district, Punjab. Raised in a modest Sikh household, Dhillon grew up fascinated by both traditional Punjabi folk music and western hip-hop, R&B, and trap beats. After completing his undergraduate engineering degree at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College in Fatehgarh Sahib, he set his sights on Canada, pursuing higher education in business administration at Camosun College in Victoria, British Columbia.
THE STRUGGLE & HARDSHIPS
Facing Adversity, Rejections & The Grind
Life as an immigrant student in British Columbia was defined by intense physical and financial struggle. To pay college tuition and rent, Dhillon worked minimum-wage shifts as a gas station attendant, a retail cashier at Best Buy, and in local hospitality joints. Nights were spent in makeshift garage setups recording rough melodies with friends and fellow dreamers Gurinder Gill and Shinda Kahlon. Mainstream record labels in Punjab showed little interest in their indie blend of synth-pop and Punjabi verse, forcing the collective to bootstrap their own independent imprint, Run-Up Records.

Dhillon followed up with chart-topping tracks like 'Excuses', 'Insane', 'With You', 'Summer High', and 'Spaceship', dominating the Official UK Asian and Punjabi Charts.
SUPREME SUCCESS & LEGACY
Global Stature, Accolades & Enduring Legacy
AP Dhillon made history in 2023 by becoming the first Punjabi artist to perform at the Juno Awards and selling out arenas from Rogers Arena in Vancouver to the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. His Amazon Prime documentary 'First of a Kind' chronicled his meteoric ascent from a Gurdaspur village to global music domination. Dhillon represents the new-age independent OG who bypassed corporate industry gatekeepers to place Punjabi music at the summit of global pop culture.
