Born in the impoverished Aguablanca district of Cali, Colombia, Jeison Aristizábal was born with cerebral palsy, struggling with motor control and speech impairments while growing up in a community where disability was treated as a curse.

When doctors told his mother that he would never walk or accomplish anything in life, his family refused to give up. As Jeison overcame obstacles to complete high school and study law, he was shocked to see other disabled children locked inside dark bedrooms without therapy or schooling.

At age twenty-one, using his family's garage, Aristizábal founded ASODISVALLE (Association of Disabled Persons of the Valley).
